Finding His Place in the Workforce: Reggie S.’s Journey
Reggie S. is a 43-year-old man who lives independently in Burlington, NJ. Reggie was born with cerebral palsy. Before entering Goodwill’s Extended Employment Program just over a year ago, Reggie had no formal work history.
Since joining the program, Reggie has learned and worked on several assignments and jobs, developing a wide range of skills along the way.
Building Skills Through Experience
Reggie has worked with American Auto Wire, where he assembled auto parts. He has also worked on GSB, where he inspects cleaning products and corrects infractions.
At Rome Pets, Reggie assembled gourmet dog treats and then weighed, sealed and packaged the products for retail.
Currently, Reggie works with books. He scans the ISBN number, the identification number assigned to each book, and enters that information into the computer for retail sales.
Through each assignment, Reggie has continued to build his skills and demonstrate his ability to take on new responsibilities.
A Trusted Contributor
Reggie is relied upon by his co-workers because of his diligence, work ethic and keen insight into the scanning of books.
His ability to work independently makes Reggie a trusted contributor and an asset at Contracts.
What began as his first formal work experience has become an opportunity for Reggie to develop skills, contribute to a team and demonstrate what he can accomplish in the workplace.
Advocating for Others
Reggie’s contributions extend beyond his work.
He is also a board member and advocate of C.C.H.B.C., the Board of Certified Behavior Health Clinic. Reggie advocates for health care, housing and the rights of individuals with disabilities.
Reggie takes his position seriously and is passionate about advocating for others.
Through his work and advocacy, Reggie continues to make an impact both in the workplace and in his community.
