The Post Holiday PURGE - Goodwill Industries of New Jersey and Philadelphia

The Post Holiday PURGE

The gifts are unwrapped. The holiday décor is about to come down. And miraculously more stuff has overtaken your home.  It’s time to beat the post-holiday blues by taking control and doing the annual decluttering purge.  Here are some tips for tackling the purge:

Tips to Make Donating Easier

1. Start Small – Pick one room or area, like a closet, pantry, or kid’s playroom, and sort through items.  Take one area at a time.

2. Use the “Keep, Toss, Donate” Method – Decide quickly whether an item has a place in your home, needs to be discarded, or could bring joy to someone else.

3. Donate What You Would Use – Donate to Goodwill what you would give to a friend. This ensures your donations are helpful and appreciated.

4. Get Kids Involved – Encourage children to pick toys, books, or clothing they’ve outgrown. Explain that their items will bring happiness to new homes and to other children. Set a goal for how many items each child can donate and celebrate their contributions with a small reward or fun activity.

5. Share the Story – Talk about where donations go and how they help families in the community. This helps kids feel proud and motivated to participate.

Your donations to Goodwill do more than tidy up your home.  They change lives.  Goodwill’s local thrift stores sell your donated items to fund career building programs that help local residents with disabilities and disadvantages get to work.  At Goodwill, you can earn a high school diploma; take advantage of Digital Literacy Training; and freshen up your resume with My Career Advisor, just to name a few.

We encourage you to make a difference today by donating to your local Goodwill.  Thank you for supporting Goodwill and its mission of transforming lives through the power of education and employment.
