Nearly a year ago, Sekou arrived in the U.S. from West Africa, feeling lost and unsure where to start. But his excitement to learn English drove him to join ESL classes at the Helms Academy right away. “It was hard,” he says, recalling his struggles with the language barrier. Now, he understands 95% of English and has reached other goals, like getting a job at Dunkin’ Donuts and enrolling in CCP for Spring 2025. “On the job, ESL has helped me very much,“ Sekou shares, “I’m growing very well; I’m happy now.”
The Helms Academy is proud to help students like Sekou reach their dreams. “I want to be a Software Engineer,” Sekou says, and he encourages others to join the program too.
