At just 17, Jo Anne made the brave decision to leave high school to work and provide for her family by babysitting the children of her mom’s friend. Though this path set her back academically, she never lost sight of her dreams. She was determined to prove herself and find a better job.
When she heard about Goodwill’s Helms Academy through a coworker, she felt a spark of hope. “I always wanted to prove myself and to my family that I could do it.” Jo Anne’s goal was clear: to obtain her high school diploma, no matter the challenges that lay ahead. Despite facing significant obstacles, including medical and family issues, she kept her eyes set on her objective.
With the unwavering support of her instructor, Ms. Patti, Jo Anne dedicated herself to her studies. After two years of hard work, she proudly passed all Hi-Set tests and earned her high school diploma. “I’m so thankful that I had Ms. Patti to help me; without her, I didn’t think I would have graduated.” Now, Jo Anne has her sights set on a new goal: obtaining her real estate license.
Jo Anne’s journey serves as a powerful reminder: “Remember never give up. The teachers at Goodwill are there for you. Don’t give up. You can do it!”
