Fresh out of an abusive relationship and hundreds of miles away from home, Jane* arrived at Goodwill’s Career Opportunity Center frightened and lacking confidence but ready to forge ahead with a new life. She just needed some help getting there. She found it through a Goodwill Career Navigator named, Serena. Beyond helping Jane refresh her resume; develop a cover letter; target potential employers; and prepare for tough interview questions, Serena instilled her with confidence, positivity and encouragement. Here is what Jane recently wrote about Serena and the impact she had on her life…
“Serena was the first genuinely encouraging person I met when I arrived from out-of-state slightly broken. I received more positive energy from Serena than the family that took me in. That’s ok, because what matters now is the success story. Let this letter attest to the fact that her motivational support and personal interest in ME did more than any temp agency could have ever offered. I received weekly, sometimes daily encouragement, from Serena, and a level of confidence that can never be replaced. I hope Serena’s coworkers and family know what a true blessing she is.”
Today, Jane is gainfully employed by a local hospital system where she is earning competitive wages and benefits. She is also planning to take advantage of the system’s tuition reimbursement program to further her education.
