Having worked as a teacher’s aide in a daycare setting and as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Eleni, age 28, has plenty of work experience yet she’s never been entirely happy with her career direction. Wanting to make a change, Eleni, who has a learning disability, was referred to Goodwill for a clerical assessment by the NJ Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR). This free program helped Eleni learn about the evolving automated office environment in order to boost her resume credentials. While spreadsheets and presentations once intimidated her, she is now certified in both Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. “I never knew Goodwill as anything more than a store and donation center,” said Eleni. “It’s really a place for new beginnings—helping me pave the way to a more permanent career that aligns with my goals and values.”
